The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizzair received a hefty fine in the form of a temporary land ban in Athens for disregarding an order from the Greek government. Specifically, Greece accuses the airline that the presence of the entry QR codes was not checked on a large scale and so many passengers were brought into the country without them.

In Notam A2235 / 20, the Mediterranean state becomes particularly clear and forbids Wizzair to land and operate all flights to Athens, as the regulations published in Notam 2138/20 have been disregarded. The ban for Wizzair will take effect on August 2, 2020 at 21:00 p.m. (UTC) and will last until at least August 14, 2020, 21:00 p.m. (UTC).

At the same time, Greece urgently warns all other airlines in the Notam that if the instructions are not followed, similar sanctions could be imposed. Airlines flying to Greece must check before boarding whether the passengers have the QR code required for entry with them on paper or on their smartphone. Those who do not have this cannot be promoted.
