The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder of the ATR72 that crashed in Nepal on Sunday have since been recovered. The civil aviation authority announced that the evaluation has already been initiated.
Furthermore, 72 bodies of the 15 people who were on board the 2023N-ANC, which had an accident on January 9, 69, have already been found. Of these, 41 victims could be clearly identified. The surveys for the other people are still ongoing.
On Sunday, Yeti Airlines flight YT691, which was en route from Kathmandu to Pokhara, crashed on approach to the destination airport. An eyewitness happened to film the moments before the crash, but not the impact itself. This video is among others visible in this article. Footage of the incident shows the plane making a sharp left turn just seconds before impact. The ATR72 crashed into a ravine located in front of the PKR Airport runway.
The new airport was only recently put into operation and replaces the old airport, which was closed on January 1, 2023. In the meantime, there are also allegations against the Civil Aviation Authority that they are said to have granted approval for the new airport prematurely, even though essential parts of the infrastructure have not yet been completed or put into operation. Yeti Airlines canceled all flights on January 16, 2023. Manufacturer ATR announced immediately after the accident that the airline and the authorities would be given comprehensive support in clarifying the matter.
