For corporate customers, Lufthansa is introducing a tariff that consumer advocates are currently demanding intensely for private customers: Payment is only made at the time of departure. Also, only flights actually used should be billed.

According to the VDR business travel association, the Kranich Group changed the billing modalities for corporate customers in the “Pay as you fly” model. According to the industry association, billing at the time of departure should offer decisive advantages: If the flight is canceled, no reimbursement applications have to be submitted. The charging of rebooking and cancellation fees should also be dispensed with.

It remains to be seen whether Lufthansa will also introduce this billing model for private customers. It is currently reserved for companies with a valid contract and only applies to short-haul flights within Europe. VDR President Christoph Carnier hopes that other airlines will follow suit. In their opinion, the crane is the first airline to introduce such a model.
