The Swiss aviation company Zimex Aviation becomes the launch customer of the de Havilland DHC-6-300-G. As part of the Paris Air Show, it was announced that two examples of this type had been ordered directly from the Canadian aircraft manufacturer.

Neither the carrier nor the manufacturer gave specific information on the delivery date of the modernized Twin Otter. The model is based on the 300 version, but has renewed avionics, which, among other things, leads to an increase in range and payload. During the Paris Air Show, Indian Flybig also announced that it had ordered from de Havilland. With regard to the DHC-6-300-G model, however, one has only signed a letter of intent and no order placed yet. Zimex Aviation is thus the official launch customer.

The Swiss carrier currently has three ATR42, nine ATR72, eight de Havilland DHC-6-300 and two DHC-6-400. Two ATR42-320F are registered on the AOC of the Austrian offshoot based in Salzburg.

Commenting on the order placed with de Havilland Aircraft of Canada, Zimex CEO Daniele Cereghetti said: “The Twin Otter has been the cornerstone of our operations for more than four decades and we are delighted to welcome the new Classic 300-G to our fleet. As the first EASA-approved operator of this exceptional series of aircraft, we are very proud, which also underscores our capabilities as a de Havilland-Endorsed Service Centre.”

If the renewed Twin Otter DHC-6-300-G had a chance as a tertiary connector in our German-speaking countries within a respective radius of e.g. B. 450 km, corresponding to a maximum flight time of 1 1/2 hours? Any longer would not be an option because the small aircraft does not have an on-board toilet. Alpine traversal over the Gotthard, pass 2100 m above sea level, would have to be flown at least 600 m above sea level. A new company with at least two dozen of these machines? The US company Cape Air, based in Boston, gave me this idea. For comparison, they want to buy 50-100 Tecnam P2012 Travelers to replace 80 old Cessna 402s. Both planes are about the same speed, but the Twin Otter has 10 more pax seats. In advance for business people and private people who are willing to pay a higher transport price “for faster arrival”.
