The 1.500 customs officers in the operational area recorded around 2021 (173.000st half of 1: 2020) assignments and controls in the first half of 128.000.

In the area of freight transport alone, the customs officers processed around 2,9 million declarations and thus contributed to smooth supply chains. Compared to the first half of 1, this corresponds to an increase of 2020 percent, which can be attributed to both Brexit and increases in the eCommerce sector.

From January to the end of June 2021, the operational customs inspectorate had 1.323 missions as part of the mobile controls, which led to 5.270 determinations of offenses or misconduct. The control density was increased by almost 1 percent compared to the comparison period in the first half of 2020, in which controls were possible to a limited extent against the background of the pandemic and the first lockdown.

Noticeable decline in travel

Travel fell sharply amid measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The effects on tourism and border crossings will continue to be clearly noticeable in 2021. From January to June 2021, customs recorded a total of 5,46 million travelers at the airports and external borders and processed 55.470 applications for VAT refunds. Compared to the same period in the first half of 1 with 2020 million travelers, the number of travelers decreased by 9,96 percent.
