ZRH: Upward trend in passenger numbers continues in March

In March 2022, exactly 1.319.093 passengers flew via Zurich Airport - this corresponds to an increase of 478 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. Compared to March 2019, the number of passengers in the reporting month is 54 percent.

The number of local passengers in March 2022 was 929.197. The proportion of transfer passengers was 29 percent, which corresponds to 385.712 passengers. The number of flight movements rose by 153 percent to 14.651 take-offs or landings compared to the same month last year. The monthly comparison shows that flight movements are 66 percent of the 2019 level. At 116 passengers, the average number of passengers per flight was 49 percent higher than in the previous year. Seat occupancy increased by 26 percentage points to 70 percent in the month under review. Zurich Airport expects an average of around 70.000 passengers per day over Easter, which corresponds to around 70 percent of the passenger volume before Corona. 

A total of 41.262 tonnes of freight were handled at Zurich Airport in March. This corresponds to an increase of 25 percent compared to the same month last year. Compared to March 2019, 2 percent less freight was handled.
