After an incident on December 3, 2021 in the noise protection hangar at Zurich Airport, the hangar is out of operation for several months and has to be extensively renovated. Engine runs must take place outside during this time.
At the beginning of December, during an engine run in the noise protection hangar at Zurich Airport, insulation material detached itself from the interior walls. The analysis of the cause would still be ongoing, according to the airport. The planning of the repairs is also in full swing so that the noise protection hangar can be put back into operation as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, the repair of the hall will take several months, as a large area of the sound-absorbing construction was destroyed. Based on the findings from the investigation by engineers, the defective parts are then redesigned and finally assembled.
Engine idle runs in the open until further notice
During this time, engine idle runs must be carried out outdoors. “Flughafen Zürich AG is doing its best to ensure that planned stand runs take place during the day. In exceptional cases, unscheduled stationary runs will also be necessary at night. Flughafen Zürich AG asks for your understanding for the additional noise emissions ”, it says in the broadcast.
