Oneworld member American Airlines has been fined a hefty $4,1 million for repeatedly keeping passengers waiting excessively long on the apron to board planes.

Local law prohibits travelers from waiting more than three hours on aircraft on the apron. It must be possible to leave the machine. An investigation by the Office of Aviation Consumer Protection OACP found that the carrier allegedly violated the regulation, which only applies to domestic flights, in 2018 cases between 2021 and 43. They also failed to offer snacks and at least water. As a result, the agency, which reports to the Department of Transportation, imposed a $4,1 million fine.
