At Zurich-Kloten Airport, automatic baggage drop-off machines are due to go into operation from spring 2022. These should initially be positioned in check-in areas 2 and 3. With this new task option one wants to relieve the staff manned counters.

Depending on the airline, baggage can be dropped off at the devices as early as 23 hours before the scheduled departure. The machine issues both a boarding pass and a tag. Alternatively, if offered by the airline, boarding passes and luggage tags can also be obtained via online check-in.

In check-in area 3, the machines should primarily be used by Swiss and Star Alliance partners. In area 2, these are available to all airlines who want to use them, according to Zurich Airport. In return, Zurich Airport will close 16 staffed counters. However, there should not be any downsizing.
