On February 14, 2023, a serious accident almost happened at Zurich-Kloten Airport. An inspection vehicle crossed the runway intersection on runway 34, even though an Airbus A320 from Swissgerate was taking off from runway 28.

The machine with the registration HB-IJQ, which at the time of the incident was about to take off for Brussels as LX786, was affected. The visibility conditions are said to have been poor, which is why it raises legitimate questions as to why the inspection vehicle crossed the runway without the prescribed safety stop.

There were six crew members and 70 passengers on board HB-IJQ. A collision and thus a serious accident could only just be avoided. The ground vehicle is said to have crossed the runway just before the Airbus A320 took off. The Swiss authorities are now examining the incident more closely.
