The 2022/23 winter flight schedule has just started and since then Air Baltic has been flying six Airbus A220-300s on behalf of Swiss International Airlines. The wet lease machines are used in the European route network, mainly from Zurich-Kloten.

A few weeks ago, the Swiss Lufthansa subsidiary announced that for the time being in winter 2022/23 will lease six Airbus A220-300s including crews from Air Baltic. This was on the part of local unions sometimes heavily criticized. In the meantime, Swiss has decided that one also in the summer of 2023 will rely on the services of the Latvian carrier.

Officially, they want to stabilize their own flight operations with the use of the A220-300 from Air Baltic. It is an open secret that Swiss is suffering from an acute shortage of staff. There are various reasons for this, but due to the company's obligation to vaccinate, numerous flight attendants and pilots have parted ways. In the cabin, the number of cancellations is higher. Up to 2023 new flight attendants are to be hired for the 1.8000 summer flight schedule.

In addition to Air Baltic, Helvetic Airways continues to operate on behalf of Swiss. The cooperation with both companies was also confirmed for the summer of 2023, so that it is long-term. The Latvian carrier is currently using the aircraft with the registrations YL-ABC, YL-ABF, YL-AAU, YL-ABG, YL-ABJ and YL-CSD for the Swiss Lufthansa subsidiary. Swiss is also an A220 operator itself. In-house operations have nine Airbus A220-100 and 21 A220-300.
