On January 14, 2024, dramatic scenes occurred on board Ita Airways flight AZ680: A 70-year-old passenger suddenly suffered a medical emergency and unfortunately died despite intensive efforts by the crew and other passengers.

The Airbus A350-900 with the registration EI-IFZ was on its way from Rome-Fiumicino to Buenos Aires (Ezeiza). The plane was scheduled to land at the South American airport on the morning of January 14, 2024. However, a medical emergency occurred in Uruguay's airspace. The crew and other passengers performed resuscitation measures. He had decided to land in Montevideo immediately so that the man could be taken to a hospital as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, the sick passenger did not live to see this because, despite intensive efforts, he died. The plane was held in Montevideo for a few hours while the police and forensic authorities carried out some investigations and interviews. The jet was then released and was able to land in Buenos Aires-Ezezas at around 12:15 p.m. local time.
