The emergency exercise “MC FLY 21” took place yesterday at Zurich Airport under the supervision of the Federal Office for Civil Aviation (FOCA). The EU and the international civil aviation organization ICAO stipulate that the entire emergency organization is carried out every two years at international airports with regular scheduled services.

In the scenario of this year's emergency exercise, those responsible based themselves on realistic events. The exercise involved the fact that an aircraft collided with a drone on its final approach. There were several injured. In addition to the rear organizations, all blue light organizations were specifically challenged in this year's emergency exercise. A total of around 400 trained people and around 160 figurants took part in the exercise. The EASA emergency exercise took place during ongoing flight operations.

The Zurich canton police, Zurich Protection & Rescue, Swiss, several external rescue services and Flughafen Zürich AG were trained. At the same time, the rear emergency organization of the airport - the crisis team, the crisis information and the support services - was called in and practiced. The emergency telephone for relatives, specially set up for emergencies, was also put into operation.

The results will now be evaluated and incorporated into a detailed overall assessment. As always, the findings from the final report are intended to contribute to the further optimization of the emergency organization.
