It is a year older than Munich Airport and was used as a fire truck for almost three decades by the airport fire departments in Geneva and Sion: The prototype of the Panther airport fire engine from the Austrian manufacturer Rosenbauer, completed in 1991.
On his last business trip from Sion, Switzerland to the Bavarian Fire Brigade Museum in Waldkraiburg, the Panther made a stopover at Munich Airport. For the first of all Panthers, there was also a befitting water baptism at Munich Airport on the occasion of his last guest appearance at an airport (see photo). At its first presentation in Leonding, Austria, the prototype of the Panther impressed the specialist audience in 1991 with an acceleration from 0 to 80 km / h in 24 seconds and a top speed of 135 km / h.
Anyone interested in historical fire engines will soon be able to experience the Panther up close. In time for the reopening of the Bavarian Fire Brigade Museum, the veteran emergency vehicle is to be transferred to Waldkraiburg next Saturday.
