Austria's largest airport, Vienna-Schwechat, was able to count well over a million passengers again in July and August 2021. The year 2021 started at a very low level.
In Vienna, there has been a gradual upward trend since March 2021. The months of January and February 2021 were weak due to the lockdowns and the tough entry and quarantine regulations. They only had about eight percent of the previous year's volume.
Passenger numbers have been rising again since March 2021, but initially at a low level. The summer holidays then gave Vienna a significant leap. If one compares June 2021 with July 2021, almost a doubling can be seen.
The sharp increase, which continued in August 2021 and accounted for 1.778.047 passengers on 15.270 flights, is primarily due to the traditionally higher demand during the summer holidays. Compared to the same period of the previous year, there was a significant increase, but it was significantly below the value of the record year 2019.
