On Monday, February 12, 2024, rail traffic between Stuttgart and Frankfurt am Main had to be restricted. The reason for this was not a spontaneous strike, but the theft of copper cables.

Metal thieves struck between Mannheim main station and Lampertheim on the night from Sunday to Monday. They are said to have stolen copper cables, which are necessary for operation, to an extent that was not communicated by DB Netze. This meant that operations had to be reduced. Numerous long-distance trains were canceled or significantly delayed due to diversions to alternative routes.
