Deutsche Bahn is discontinuing direct trains from Basel to Amsterdam

Deutsche Bahn AG will discontinue the direct ICE connection between Basel and Amsterdam effective July 15, 2024. This route has been offered without transfers for 96 years.

According to official reports, Deutsche Bahn wants to “optimize” the offer to the Netherlands. However, the foreign partner railways are secretly saying that the DB simply no longer wants to run this train connection. Critics say that the railway would be made even less attractive as a mode of transport compared to airplanes.

At Deutsche Bahn they see it completely differently and emphasize that in the future you would be able to get to Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich without changing trains. You could then change to Amsterdam and the freed-up capacity could be used on other routes and, for example, from the Rhine/Main region onwards, the connection to the Dutch capital would be strengthened.
