The Airbus A320neo operated by SAS with the registration SE-ROE struggled with engine problems on January 6, 2024 on the way from Stockholm-Arlanda to Funchal. The medium-haul jet had to divert to Las Palmas.

The first attempt to land in Funchal was unsuccessful. In addition to the problems with one of the two engines, strong wind shear was reported to have occurred. Flight SK2901 was then diverted to Las Palmas at the request of the captain.

The airline concerned emphasized in a statement that it was purely a precautionary measure. In Las Palmas the technical possibilities to fix the defect would be better than those in Funchal. It is also made clear that the safety of the travelers was guaranteed at all times and that it was not an emergency landing.
