Federal Army with numerous new acquisitions

By increasing the budget, the Federal Army could be modernized in 2023. The Federal Army purchased 449 vehicles this year: two MAN Lion's Coach large buses, 40 VW Pritsche, 25 VW ID.4, 80 VW Golf 7 Variant and 302 Mitsubishi L200. In addition, the Federal Army procured ten armored Pandur Evolutions.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “Austria’s security is most important. In order for us to be able to offer this security, our soldiers must be equipped with modern equipment. I am pleased that we had the opportunity to modernize the armed forces in 2023.”

Furthermore, 89 sled trailers including flat racks and swap bodies, four medium-sized HX 42M recovery vehicles with trailers, 25 6×6 tipper truck recovery vehicles with trailers and three fire extinguishing containers were procured. The Federal Army also invested in equipping the soldiers: 40.800 M2000 NBC protective masks, 1.600 3D night vision goggles, an initial delivery of 35.000 pieces of the new shoe system, 24 soldier radios, 4.000 StG77 A1 MOD assault rifles, tranche 5, were purchased camouflage suits and providing professional hunters with hunting equipment.

Further procurements made by the Federal Army in 2023 included a precision approach radar, a panoramic radar system and the ERFOS 2 detection and location system. The ICT devices were also increased with 6.000 notebooks and 200 property servers. One of the largest investments in 2023 is the AW169 helicopter. In December of last year, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner signed the option to purchase a total of 36 helicopters, which will be delivered by 2028. A total of five new helicopters have already landed with the armed forces.
