The owners of the Großglockner Bergbahnen Heiligenblut have decided that they will not sell to an investor group that has been rumored in the media for several weeks. The operation should be continued independently.

According to the announcement, there is disagreement with the previous approach of the alleged interested parties, which are said to have come through the municipal office, but allegedly not directly through the owners of the company. The conditions suggested by the interested parties' lawyer cannot be accepted either.

Now the operation should be continued independently. “In order to secure the ski area sustainably, the owners believe that the number of facilities and therefore the costs must also be reduced. In recent years the annual loss has been between 0,5 and 1 million euros. In the event of an independent continuation, the specific measures would first have to be examined; in any case, from a financial perspective, the industrious railways are affected by this. From the owners’ perspective, only by reducing the effort and costs by closing parts of the system can the mountain railways and winter tourism in the region be secured in the long term,” it says. In other words: the ski area should be reduced in size.
