IndiGo: Problems with PW engines are spreading

At low-cost airline Indigo, problems with Pratt & Whitney engines appear to be expanding. The carrier has had to shut down several machines in the last few days because it cannot get the spare parts it needs.

The affected PW1100G engines require an unscheduled inspection. However, due to delivery delays, there are not enough exchange options available. Indigo is now forced to withdraw more and more machines from regular service. “We have received communication from Pratt & Whitney regarding the metal powder issue. The more workshop visits there are, the clearer things will become and this could lead to a high number of groundings. We will take remedial action and lease more aircraft,” the company said in a statement.
