In order to strengthen Innsbruck as a congress and conference location, representatives of Innsbruck Tourism and the city of Innsbruck have agreed on a higher funding budget. Through the collaboration, 100.000 euros will be available in the future to support scientific conferences and congresses at the Innsbruck location, with green events receiving particular attention.

Congress funding is awarded to bring notable congresses and meetings to destinations. “The added value of around 37,1 million euros associated with the congress and meeting industry is extremely important for Innsbruck as a business location, as upstream and downstream sectors of the economy benefit enormously from holding congresses and meetings,” says City Councilor Christine Oppitz-Plörer . For Vice Mayor Johannes Anzengruber, who is responsible for tourism and events, conference guests are an important target group: “With over 180.000 overnight stays, conference and conference guests contribute 12,4 percent of the total overnight stays. In addition, the resulting tourism added value is above average.”

Promote the conference location as a business and tourism location: This is the motto of the “New Conference Promotion”. “The conference funding was initiated by Innsbruck Tourism over ten years ago and has had a great impact ever since. I am very pleased that a larger funding pot has now been set up through collaboration with the city of Innsbruck,” said Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism. While funding totaling a total of 40.000 euros financed by Innsbruck Tourism was previously awarded by the Congress Advisory Board, it should now be possible to draw on the common budget pot of 100.000 euros (financed at 50.000 euros each).
