Frankfurt am Main Airport had around 2023 million passengers in January 3,7, around 65,5 percent more than in the first month of the previous year. This was strongly influenced by the emergence of the omicron corona variant.

In contrast, January 2023 benefited from return trips from holiday countries after the Christmas holidays. The warm waters of European destinations such as the Canary Islands were particularly in demand, as were intercontinental destinations in the Caribbean, North America and Central Africa. Compared to January 20191, passenger numbers for January 2023 are still 21,3 percent lower.

Freight volume continues to decline. It fell by 18,8 percent compared to January 2022, again due to the general economic slowdown and the suspension of flights to Russia. January 2023 was also particularly influenced by the Chinese New Year celebrations, which started earlier than in the previous year and always led to a decline in freight volumes. Flight movements in FRA increased by 20,6 percent to 29.710 take-offs and landings. The cumulative maximum take-off weights (MTOW) increased by 15,4 percent to around 1,9 million tons (both compared to January 2022).

Almost all airports in Fraport's international portfolio are also continuing to grow. Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia recorded 2023 passengers in January 57.912 (up 54,0 percent). At the Brazilian airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), the number of passengers fell slightly to 1,1 million (minus 3,0 percent). Around 1,6 million passengers (up 27,1 percent) traveled through Peru's Lima Airport (LIM) in January. At Fraport's 14 Greek regional airports, the number of passengers rose to 596.129 (plus 61,1 percent). The Bulgarian coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) together recorded growth to 96.833 million passengers (plus 65,7 percent). Passenger numbers at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera rose to 910.597 (up 38,2 percent).
