Ljubljana: Fraport relies on new turnaround technology

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) is the latest airport to use Assaia's turnaround technology to optimize the airport's turnaround performance. This is an important cornerstone for the other airports in the Fraport portfolio. The initial results show a significant difference in the average ground delay for flights where the warnings were confirmed compared to flights where the warnings were not confirmed. The reduction in average ground delays is almost six minutes during January-February this year.

Turnaround Control is used at all critical gates at LJU and allows the team to optimize operations in real time to improve handling efficiency, including assigning the correct staffing levels based on actual events rather than scheduled times. Additionally, by tracking all activity over time, the system provides the data necessary to streamline standard operating procedures. The result is more predictable and faster processing.

Babett Stapel, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenjia, said: “Our focus is on using innovation to make our operations smoother. We chose Assaia because the tool is so powerful. But it is also very important for us that it has already been successfully implemented, so we know it will be successful for us, for our airlines and ultimately for our passengers.”

Assaia uses a combination of computer vision and artificial intelligence to monitor every aspect of dispatch. The resulting data is integrated into the airport, airline and ground handler systems, providing real-time information via a dashboard, including tailored alerts, as well as reports that highlight areas for long-term improvement.
