Right to strike: Cockpit Association criticizes politicians' demands

In recent days, numerous politicians have strongly criticized the recent strikes in the German transport sector. Some have called for there to be clear rules in the future. The Cockpit association warns that this could lead to an interference with the right to strike.

“As a fundamental right, the right to strike is an elementary component for the balance of social interests,” says VC President Stefan Herth. “All I can say to employers is: just as you shout into the forest, it will ring out again. Employers are always free to find good solutions for all parties in constructive discussions. As employees of transport and infrastructure companies, we create enormous added value for this country and society. When employers do not honor this value, unions are unnecessarily driven into conflict and even strikes. Unfortunately, for years we have noticed a tendency that the much-vaunted social partnership should only apply when it comes to cuts to employees. We are also seeing negotiations becoming increasingly unreliable among many employers. What we need instead is a much stronger solution orientation and real cooperation. That would really reduce the number of strikes!”
