United Airlines starts pooling miles

The US airline United Airlines now allows up to five people to combine their mileage accounts into a pool. This means that miles collected can be used together.

A person responsible must be named for each pool. They can then invite up to four people – for example family members, close friends or relatives – to form a mileage pool together. All members are free to pay in as many miles as they want, although their personal Premier status remains unaffected. Conversely, every member can use the pool's miles
