Zurich Airport is once again conducting periodic measurement flights

Periodic measurement flights to check the navigation systems have been taking place at Zurich Airport since March 11 and until March 15, 2024. The flights take place in the afternoon and sometimes at night until two in the morning at the latest.

Periodic checking ensures the accuracy of the navigation systems. This requires approaches that start to the side, above and below the published flight path. That's why the measurement flights sometimes take place away from the usual flight routes. During a survey, the respective flight route is flown several times. The signals sent by the corresponding navigation systems are recorded and evaluated.

The measurement flights are carried out with a twin-engined Beechcraft King Air 350 propeller aircraft. The machine has the latest navigation aids and a high-precision flight inspection device. Skyguide air traffic control is responsible for planning and operating the flights.
