ADV: Strikes resulted in fewer passengers at German airports

German airports were used by a total of 2024 million travelers in February 12,22. In direct comparison to the same period last year, there were 47.000 fewer passengers, which the ADV attributes to the recurring strikes.

The recovery rate to the pre-crisis level of 2019 also continues to fall, to just 77,8 percent. In many European aviation markets, the recovery rate is more than 15 percentage points higher, and in some countries it is already above pre-crisis levels. Demand for domestic German air traffic fell slightly in February to 1,58 million compared to the previous month in January (over -48.000 passengers). Compared to February 2019, a good half of the passengers are missing (-54,6%). Compared to the previous year, this market segment is growing by +7,1%.

European traffic saw 7,9 million passengers in February. Compared to the previous month of January, the number of passengers grew by +12,7% (around +240.000 passengers). Compared to February last year, this is +15,6%. The recovery rate for 2019 is 84,9%.

Intercontinental demand is down compared to January (around -239.000 passengers - every fifth passenger flies intercontinental. Compared to the same month last year, this market segment is growing by +16,8% to 2,72 million passengers. Compared to February 2019, the recovery is -Rate at 93,5% of passengers - and thus achieves the highest value of the three distance classes.
