Air Serbia would like to appear leaner in the future, which is why the Balkan carrier is planning to downsize. To do this, you reach into the bag of tricks: Employees should be encouraged to voluntarily resign through “financial incentives”. In addition, another instrument should lead to people leaving the company: the cut in wages.
The corona crisis is affecting the entire industry. In order to further reduce the cost structure, at least 300 employees would have to go, like the aviation portal Exyuaviation. In order not to have to act yourself, Air Serbia first tries other means. The workforce was informed that wages will be cut from December 2020 to March 2021. An extension of this measure is quite conceivable in view of the tense situation. The airline introduced a hiring freeze back in March.
Other screws were also turned vigorously. Air Serbia has adapted its active fleet to demand and renegotiated leasing contracts. Accordingly, the leasing costs in the future will amount to hours actually flown and do not correspond to a flat rate. In addition, the flight program was limited to the bare essentials that really bring in money. According to local reports, the airline can also hope for further government support, the Serbian government is expected to contribute 150 million euros.
