Australia will probably remain a no-go zone for a long time to come. At least for tourists. Because even in the new year, the continent does not want to open its borders for international travel.

“I think that's the big question. But I think the answer is no, ”said Australian Government Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy on Monday. Even if a large part of the population has been vaccinated against the coronavirus, it cannot be ruled out that those vaccinated could continue to transmit it to others. “I think there will still be significant border restrictions for most of this year,” Murphy said. The first reactions were not long in coming. Emirates will suspend its flight activities in the country for an indefinite period of time, reports Aero. Further stragglers are to be expected in view of the practical entry ban. Australia consistently follows its strict line. This is, among other things, the reason why the country has come through the crisis relatively lightly. The health authorities have only registered just under 29.000 infections so far.
