China forced Russia out of CR929 project

China wants to go it alone on the planned CR929 long-haul aircraft. Russia's United Aircraft Corporation left the project not entirely voluntarily.

According to Chinese media, the state leadership has declined to continue working with UAC due to numerous delays in the technology promised by Russia. The joint venture was therefore dissolved and Comac now bears sole responsibility.

There are various speculations as to what could have led to the rupture. The chronic underfunding of the UAC may have played its part, but China probably does not want to come into conflict with sanctions that would reduce the sales opportunities for the new development, which is said to have a range of around 12.000 kilometers.
