Until recently, the People's Republic of China had possibly the strictest Covid entry rules in the world. Now you loosen them, even if only slightly.

As one of the last countries in the world, China continues to pursue the zero-Covid strategy, which must be regarded as a failure. The government is sticking to this adamantly and continues to impose regional lockdowns. Entering the People's Republic is quite complicated and will remain so.

What is new is that the hotel quarantine, which must be spent in an assigned accommodation, has been reduced to five days. You then have to stay at your place of residence or accommodation for three days. Previously, isolation at a quarantine facility was seven days, followed by three days of home quarantine.

The test regime has also changed. All you have to do is present a negative PCR test made before departure. Nothing changes with regard to the tests that have to be carried out after arrival in China.

Relevant for airlines: China has assured that the previous ban practice will no longer be carried out. So far, carriers have received flight bans of various durations from a certain number of people who subsequently tested positive in the People's Republic as punishment for the "corona import".
