Corendon: Summer timetable reduced by 40 percent

The airlines of the Corendon Group attracted attention last year with a large-scale expansion, which was mainly accomplished with the help of wet lease aircraft. However, cutbacks were repeatedly made during the 2022 summer timetable period. This year the offer is massively smaller.

Corendon may have had the disadvantage that it had no fuel hedging and was therefore fully affected by the increased fuel prices. This meant that, according to their own statements, they had serious financial difficulties and towards the end of 2022 they also had problems with German customs seizures due to outstanding aviation taxes.

Although the company states that the increased fuel prices were the main cause, it has obviously miscalculated massively with regard to demand on many routes. Also, wet lease aircraft are usually significantly more expensive than own production.

The result of this: In the summer of 2023, Corendon will be on the back burner and, according to its own statements, will only serve the classic regular markets. The focus is on flights to Turkey. Group-wide, the flight schedule was reduced by 40 percent. They also want to do without wet lease machines this year. In the area of sales, Corendon relies even more than before on ticket sellers in travel agencies.
