The state airline Cubana has been excluded from the BSP billing system by the IATA. This is extremely painful for the carrier, but the World Aviation Association is accused of acting “politically motivated”.
The IATA's decision was based, among other things, on the US trade embargo. Since this has existed for what feels like an eternity, the reaction of the World Aviation Association follows rather late. Hence, it can be assumed that there are other reasons that are not currently made public. It was merely stated that the bank that carried out the payment processes in the background had ceased operations, citing the embargo.
Cubana announced that they want to maintain flight operations in the direction of Spain. For the billing of the tickets, however, you will have to come up with another solution. Bookings via agencies will also become more complicated in the future, as these are usually settled via IATA-BSP.
The carrier announced a complaint within the IATA, of which one belongs. The prospect of this is completely open. In the South American media representatives of Cubana are quoted as saying that they accuse IATA of “politically motivated behavior”. We have to wait and see further developments.
