Frankfurt Airport handled around 3,1 million passengers in September.

This corresponds to an increase of 169,1 percent compared to the weak month of the previous year, as the airport operator Fraport announced in a broadcast. The main reason for the positive development continued to be tourism traffic. As in August, the number of passengers reached almost half of the pre-crisis level. In the first nine months of the current year the number of passengers was around 15,8 million. This corresponded to a decrease of 2,2 percent compared to the same period in 2020 and a decrease of 70,8 percent compared to 2019.

The cargo volume increased again and achieved a significant plus of 13,4 percent 188.177 tons (plus 7,7 percent compared to September 2019). The number of flight movements rose year-on-year by 66,1 percent to 28.135 take-offs and landings. The total of the maximum take-off weights grew by 61,5 percent to just under 1,8 million tons.

The positive trend in passenger numbers also continued in the international portfolio. With the exception of the Chinese airport Xi'an, the Group airports achieved significant growth of in some cases over one hundred percent, but based on the sharp reduction in air traffic in September 2020. Compared to the same month of 2019, the Group airports continued to record predominantly declines.
