From Sylt to Kitzbühl: Tips for vacationing with your dog

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Your beloved four-legged friend should go on vacation with you – but is that possible? In the twelve Arcona houses the answer is now very clear: yes! Whether pointer, poodle or Pekingese: all well-behaved dogs can stay in their owners' rooms for an additional charge.

As if that weren't enough, most Arcona Hotels, in cooperation with the Bielefeld pet supplies manufacturer Hunter, also offer drinking and feeding bowls, treats, blankets, baskets and toys, and some also offer dog waste bags and stations for paw cleaning. For outdoor holiday fun, the employees are happy to give tips on dog beaches, dog parks and excursions with dogs, as well as taboo zones and places where muzzles are required. Some hotels also provide addresses of nearby veterinarians and first aid kits. The Hotel Künstlerquartier Seezeichen Ahrenshoop even reserves beach chairs on the dog beach upon request.

“We want people and dogs to spend a wonderful holiday together,” says Christiane Winter-Thumann, Director of Communications at Arcona. “Our experiences over the last few years have been so positive that we have expanded our offering for dog lovers. Of course, we make sure that even guests without four-legged friends feel completely comfortable with us.”

The surcharge per dog per night is between 15 and 25 euros, depending on the house. The Barefoot Hotel Mallorca and the Hotel Elephant Weimar charge 30 euros per stay. If you would like to bring your furry friend to the restaurant, you should inquire beforehand whether this is permitted. The wellness areas are dog-free everywhere.

“As a dog owner, I know from my own experience how nice it is not to have to make any compromises when traveling. “It was all the more important to me to equip Arcona with our accessories so that dog lovers can enjoy their vacation together with their best friend,” says Hunter managing director Nadine Trautwein.

From Sylt to Kitzbühel: dog holidays by the sea and in the mountains

The North Sea island of Sylt has clear rules for relaxed coexistence between people and dogs - which is why it is particularly popular with guests accompanied by their four-legged friends. At the Wyn Strandhotel Sylt, dogs can stay in their owners' rooms for 18 euros per night, where they can snuggle up in a dog blanket and eat from bowls with a hygienic surface. There are also treats and the brochure “Dog Etiquette of Sylt”. The hotel's own shop stocks dog souvenirs.

Four-legged friends are also welcome on the Baltic Sea, for example at the Hotel Kaiserhof Heringsdorf on Usedom. For 20 euros per night there is a dog blanket, food bowls and a mat, poop bag dispenser and treats in the room. Dog-friendly areas such as the summer terrace are designated in the house. Upon arrival there is information about the dog beach, ideas for excursions and, if desired, contact with a local dog sitter or veterinarian.

Anyone who would like to roam the mountains with their furry friend is welcome at the boutique hotel Erika in Kitzbühel (15 euros per dog/night) and - from December 2023 - at the Hotel Triforêt Hinterstoder (20 euros per dog/night). And around the romantic hotel on the Wartburg (20 euros per dog/night), in addition to dog-friendly services, there are also long walks through the cultural city of Eisenach.
