Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Whether leisurely bike tours for families, pleasure-seekers and the spontaneous, or for demanding and experienced mountain bikers: Graubünden is known as the country of cyclists – as the Swiss call cycling. The canton offers numerous routes that take travelers through scenery that is always spectacular.

For example, you can bike through the Rhine Gorge, along mighty rock faces and through picturesque villages. With muscle power or electricity you can reach the summit. Every cyclist will find the right challenge for themselves among the 4.000 kilometers of marked cycle paths and bike trails.

Train & Bike: Traveling through Graubünden made easy

The 4.000 kilometer network of bike paths takes cyclists up and down, crisscrossing the canton. Since many of the routes run along the route network of the Rhaetian Railway, it is always possible to cover part of the planned route by train. With the Graubünden Pass Bike of the Rhaetian Railway, the starting points of cycle routes can be easily reached or tired legs can be brought back easily. To do this, guests simply board their Graubünden Pass Bike in the marked train compartment and hang their bike in the installed brackets up to the stop. Guests put their tour together individually - outdoor enthusiasts in Graubünden combine train and bike as they please: The Graubünden Pass Bike is available for a preferred region (north / south) as well as for the entire canton (all regions).

For active recreational athletes: Chur – Thusis

Route: Graubünden Route 6.1 | Length: 27 km | Requirement: medium | Condition: easy

Stage 1 of the Graubünden bike route starts in Chur via forest paths, country lanes and roads from the time of the Second World War. One of these paths leads from Domat/Ems to Rothenbrunnen. With a slight incline, the section of the route invites you to enjoy the breathtaking view of the meanderings of the Hinterrhein. Flanked by castles and the Piz Beverin, the last stage runs in the direction of Thusis, the destination of the tour and the cultural heart of the region. For the way back to Chur, bike enthusiasts can comfortably use the Bernina Express of the Rhaetian Railway with their Graubünden Pass Bike.

For experienced bikers: St. Moritz - Scuol

Route: Inn cycle path 65 | Length: 68 km | Requirement: medium | Condition: difficult

The route from St. Moritz to Scuol is an exciting challenge for demanding and experienced bikers. The route is a section of the Inn Cycle Path, which runs along the river from Maloja to Martina. In La Punt Chamues-ch in the Engadin canton, landscape and architecture are combined in the form of magnificent patrician houses. Sometimes uphill, sometimes downhill, the journey continues along the Swiss National Park. From Zernez, strength and stamina are required, because the 287 meters in altitude from Lavin to Guarda have to be overcome. On the descent to Ardez, your legs can recharge their batteries before the last big climb to Ftan. From Ftan, bikers only roll five kilometers downhill to their destination in Scuol. From Scuol-Tarasp, the Bernina Express takes bikers back to the starting point in St. Moritz with just one stopover.
