There is a clear sign of life from the insolvent airline Jet Airways, because the competent bankruptcy court cleared the way for the resumption of flight operations. The carrier can fly on alternative slots and employ up to 75 employees per machine.
Jet Airways expanded greatly with the participation of Etihad Airways and ultimately got lost. In April 2019, flight operations had to be discontinued due to a lack of money. Nobody really expected the resumption any longer.
The Jalan Kalrock Consortium emerged as a successful bidder in the bankruptcy proceedings. This wants to bring the carrier back into the air and initially received the green light from the court. The slots that were once held by Jet Airways may not be used, at least for the time being, because their affiliation is still subject to judicial review. Jet Airways should be allowed to fly on alternative take-off and landing rights.
Start with 25 aircraft this year
The carrier intends to resume flight operations within the next three months. The first routes are to be announced shortly. According to the investor's statement, they want to get started with 20 narrowbodies and five widebodies. A total of 80,7 million US dollars will be taken into hand in the short term.
It remains to be seen whether Jet Airways will actually take off again. At least the cards are looking better than ever. According to local media reports, investors are also taking on part of the mountain of debt that has accumulated over the years of rapid expansion.
