Ita entry: EU Commission demands concessions from Lufthansa

The EU Commission has announced that it has considerable concerns about Lufthansa's planned entry into Ita Airways. There are fears that the quality of service could deteriorate as prices rise.

One of the points of criticism from European competition watchdogs is that they are of the opinion that a dominant market position could arise at the Italian Milan-Linate airport. The acquisition would also potentially have a negative impact on flight availability and prices from Europe to Canada, Japan and the USA.

Lufthansa and the Italian government are now being asked to offer substantial concessions in a statement. A deadline of April 26, 2024 was granted for this.
