Ita entry: Lufthansa offers concessions to the EU Commission

After an initial refusal, Lufthansa is now said to be willing to make concessions to the EU Commission for the intended takeover of Ita Airways. If they agree to this, an in-depth review process could be averted.

The Bloomberg agency reports, citing people familiar with the matter, that the Kranich Group has submitted proposals for concessions to the EU Commission. These are voluntary measures with the aim of avoiding the in-depth Phase II review and allowing the deal to be passed more quickly.

Almost nothing is known about the content. It is up to the EU Commission whether it accepts the proposal, demands further concessions or, independently, initiates the Phase II review, which would then last until approximately April 2024. Lufthansa and Ita Airways declined to comment on the Bloomberg report.
