Ita takeover: Spohr wants to free passengers from the “Ryanair grip”.

In Italy, Ryanair has a considerably high market share. This is exactly what Lufthansa is now taking advantage of. CEO Carsten Spohr recently argued during a media interview that with the help of the Ita takeover they wanted to free passengers “from the grip of Ryanair”.

Among other things, this is intended to convince the EU Commission that there would be enough competition anyway and that the planned entry into Ita-Airways would lead to Lufthansa creating more competition against market leader Ryanair. The choice of words is interesting, with Spohr emphasizing that the approach would be “very rational”. Michael O'Leary repeatedly taunts the Lufthansa Group and other competitors in a similar way.
