In April 2021, Italia Trasporto Aereo, colloquially known as the “new Alitalia”, is to take off. The fleet is reduced to 50 aircraft. This includes six long-haul aircraft. However, the approval of the EU Commission and the Italian Parliament are still pending.
Ilsole24ore reports on an unspecified government source that only 5.000 people are to be employed. That is less than half, because Alitalia currently has around 11.000 employees. The long-haul fleet is to be reduced from 26 units to just six machines. Italia Trasporto Aereo will be roughly half the size of the current Alitalia.
