The Oneworld member Qantas wants to provide free WiFi internet on part of the fleet used on international flights.

The upgrade of the machines will begin at the end of 2024 and will then be introduced gradually. The carrier explained that it took some time to find a provider who could offer the desired quality via Stattelites. The carrier already offers free WiFi internet on numerous domestic flights.

Initially, the Airbus A380, A330 and Boeing 787 aircraft types are to be upgraded. The subsidiary Jetstar will also follow suit, but only from around 2026, as the technology will be installed in the long-haul Boeing 787 jets as part of regular major maintenance. Qantas relies on Viasat technology.
