The traditional Munich Oktoberfest will not take place this year either. Nevertheless, the crews will wear traditional costumes again on selected Lufthansa flights.
For example, on September 22, 2021, an Airbus A350 will take off from Munich to Charlotte with nine flight attendants who are traditionally dressed. Destination Denver is to follow on October 3, 2021. The first flight from Frankfurt to Denver took place 20 years ago; Munich-Denver followed five years ago.
The tradition of traditional costume flights at Lufthansa is as long as it is successful. The first flights in traditional costumes already took place in 1957 and even then they were inspiring Lufthansa passengers all over the world. The idea was taken up again in 2006, when the first flight went to New York. Since then, the Lufthansa traditional costume crews have flown to 25 international destinations, from China to Japan and India to the USA. There were also destinations all over Europe.
This year, the costume crew is also on the road more often than in previous years in Europe: They flew from Munich to Málaga yesterday, on September 18, the original start of the Munich Oktoberfest, to Funchal. The Lufthansa CityLine costume crew will start around 40 flights in Germany and Europe. From September 20th to October 3rd it flies to Copenhagen, Dublin, Alicante and Sofia, as well as to Münster / Osnabrück, Bremen, Paderborn and Dresden.
As in previous years, the traditional costumes of the Lufthansa crews were designed by the Munich-based costume specialist Angermaier. The flight attendant's Wiesn dirndl is dark blue with a silver-gray apron, the men wear short leather trousers with a dark blue vest in the dirndl fabric. It has also been a tradition for Lufthansa employees in passenger care in Terminal 2 to greet passengers in dirndls and traditional suits during the Oktoberfest.
