According to the Italian Court of Auditors, the Alitalia successor Ita Airways made a loss of 2021 million euros in the 148 financial year. The turnover was 90 million euros. The carrier started flight operations in autumn 2021.

After a long sales marathon, only Lufthansa remained as an interested party. The Kranich Group initially wants to get involved with 41 percent and, if business develops positively, take over the Italian carrier completely. However, there are still a few hurdles to be overcome before this can happen. One of these was the audit by the Court of Auditors.

Now the competition authorities are on the move. Both the Italian and the EU Commission as well as those in numerous other countries must approve the transaction. The financial plan agreed between Lufthansa and the Italian Ministry of Finance envisages sales of around 2,5 billion euros in the current financial year. By the end of 2027, this should increase to around 4,1 billion euros.
