According to the current planning beach, Lufthansa will no longer put the four-engine Airbus A340-600 into regular service. This was stated by CEO Carsten Spohr at the latest Eurocontrol event.
The 17 machines have been in long-time storage in Spain for a long time. Spohr now made it clear that the four-jet engines will not have a comeback at Lufthansa.
“We took out four-engine aircraft and grounded the entire A380 fleet. We took out the A340-600 and don't plan on getting it back into the air. So there is a significant modernization of the fleet due to the fact that we are now a smaller airline and can therefore modernize our fleet faster due to the pure mathematics behind it ", says Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr.
The future of the 17 Airbus A340-300s is unclear. According to the general director of Kranich, these should remain in operation for the time being or be reactivated if necessary. The average age of this sub-fleet is 21,3 years.
