May 2023: Zurich seven percent below pre-crisis levels

Zurich Kloten Airport was used by 2023 travelers in May 2.532.918. The volume of the same month last year was exceeded by 31 percent, but it was still seven percent below the pre-crisis level.

The airport put the number of local passengers at 1.810.661. The number of local passengers in May 2023 was 1.810.661. The proportion of transfer passengers was 28 percent, which corresponds to 715.994 travelers.

22.109 take-offs and landings were carried out. Zurich has thus reached around 90 percent of the pre-crisis volume. At 133 passengers, the average number of passengers per flight was 11 percent higher than in the previous year. Seat occupancy rose by 6 percentage points to 80 percent in the month under review compared to the same month last year.

A total of 30.506 tons of freight were handled at Zurich Airport in May. This corresponds to a decrease of 14 percent compared to the same month last year. Compared to May 2019, 20 percent less cargo was handled.
