The British airline Virgin Atlantic plans to operate the world's first long-haul flight to be operated with 28 percent SAF on November 2023, 100. The UK Civil Aviation Authority has already given the green light.

Currently it is actually not permitted for pure SAF to be used. Only admixture is permitted. The CAA has granted special permission for the planned flight. Chief Executive Rob Bishton said: “As the UK aviation regulator, it is important that we enable the industry to adopt more sustainable practices and push the boundaries of what is possible to create a greener aviation industry. “With this approval, Virgin Atlantic and other companies can not only demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, but also serve as an example for the industry to continue to explore new technologies.” The flight will travel from London-Heathrow to New York-JFK.
