The re-establishment of the crisis-ridden Alitalia is delayed further. The launch of ITA, the new state-owned company that will replace Alitalia, is scheduled for October.

Until the successor is ready to go, the government in Rome could help Alitalia with another bridging loan, reports the ORF. Actually, ITA should take off already in August instead of Alitalia and thus still benefit from business in the last phase of the holiday season. Most recently, Alitalia repeatedly had difficulties paying employees' salaries due to liquidity problems. The Italian airline has not made a profit since 2002. Numerous attempts to find a private buyer have failed. The company has been insolvent since 2017. The state had already granted the airline bridging loans in the billions.
