The ÖAMTC has been intensively dealing with the topic of drones for several years.

“Our goal is a safe coexistence of manned and unmanned aviation in shared airspace,” says Marco Trefanitz, managing director of the ÖAMTC air rescue. “That’s why it was a special pleasure for us to host the general meeting of the Joint European Drone Associations – JEDA for short – together with the Austrian drone association AAD.”

The event at the ÖAMTC Mobility Center was the perfect setting to meet high-ranking representatives of JEDA member organizations and drone industry experts. There was also the opportunity to exchange valuable experiences with representatives from Austro Control and the European Aviation Authority (EASA).

During the general meeting, the Medical Drone project was presented, a joint initiative of the ÖAMTC air rescue, the Red Cross, Apeleon, the Lower Austrian Health Agency (LGA), Notruf Niederösterreich and Ecoplus. This project uses drone technology to quickly supply hospitals with urgently needed blood supplies or medication and is funded by the FFG (Research Promotion Agency). “The possible uses of drones in the rescue sector are diverse,” explains Trefanitz, “and with the support of these strong partners, we see the medical drone as an important component in the service of progressive healthcare.”
